The Secret Garden
Past the 24-foot antique oak bar, through the dining room
hung with vintage italian film stills, and down the stairs
beneath the sea of blue frescoed walls lies the secret garden
of Trattoria Dop Teatro (125 West 44th St.; 869.2849). One
room leads to another--the skylit Garden Room with its tile
floor and waterfall tumbling down a rock well, the Wine Room,
the Cocktail Lounge, and the wood-paneled Grappa Library
that seats 10. Chef Andrea Pace's nothern Italian menu includes
singnature open raviolis filled with vegetables, cheese,
lobster, or lamb, as well as such specialties as boneless
saddle of rabbit with crispy artichokes and marinated black
olives, and daily fish specials including sauteed calamari
and poached striped bass.
